John Lydon and co will promote their new EP and full-length album with two shows

Public Image Ltd. have announced that they will be playing two London shows this April.

The band will headline London’s Heaven venue for two nights, playing the 1000 capacity venue on April 1 and 2.

Public Image Ltd. will release both a new EP and a full studio album this spring. The band will release the four-track offering ‘One Drop’ on April 21 to coincide with this year’s Record Store Day, with the LP ‘This Is PiL’ set to drop on May 28. Both releases are being put out by the band’s own label ‘Pil Official’.

Last month (January 4), the singer said that the reason the band had struggled to find a record label they wanted to work with was because of the popularity of shows such as The X Factor and the music industry’s unwillingness to take risks.

Last week (February 13), meanwhile, Public Image Ltd announced plans for a one-off show at London’s Southbank Centre on March 16, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of BBC Radio 6 Music.

On Tuesday, Brown took to Twitter to address some comments made by WWE wrestler CM Punk in a video he released on TMZ, which itself came in response to an ongoing Twitter feud the guys have been having.

“I’m a lifelong proud, drug-free, straight-edge individual, so Chris and I come from two completely different worlds,” Punk said in the video, referring to a previous tweet Brown had posted accusing Punk of taking steroids. “I don’t have a manager, I don’t have a bodyguard, I don’t have an assistant, I have no need for a PR team what to tweet or when to delete tweets, and I don’t hit women. Period. In my world women are to be revered and respected and I firmly believe that in this life there are consequences and repercussions for people’s actions, and I don’t think Chris has paid for what he’s done. Picking up trash on the side of a highway does not make amends for repeatedly striking a woman in her face and sending her to hospital.

“So if Chris wants to throw stones my way now, I say that’s fine. Let’s put some gloves out and get in the ring and I will choke you out and I will make you feel as weak and as powerless and scared and alone as any woman who has had the misfortune of knowing a sad, cowardly, little boy such as yourself. And all proceeds can go to a women’s shelter of my choosing … Chris Brown isn’t a man and that’s fine. I just know that someday, somewhere, somehow, somebody will put Chris Brown exactly where he belongs and that obviously doesn’t have to be me, I would just really like it to be.”

After the video was released, Brown responded, “@cmpunk the video u just posted was cute! It’s so funny how defensive u are. And the fact that I really don’t know who you are and could give a sh– is the funny part! I miss the real wrestlers! (Hacksaw Jim duggan, Brett the hitman heart, coco beware, rowdy roddy piper) #Notnopunks.”

Several tweets later, he brought it back to Punk, but noted that he would no longer be addressing the issue. “Note: today will be the last day I bring @cmpunk existence up! The confrontations that people continuously bring my way are very amusing,” he wrote. “Cuz honestly, that sh– is too time consuming to argue wit every person who has their own issues to deal with!”

It all started on February 20, when Punk tweeted about Brown’s 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna. From there, the two became involved in a Twitter back-and-forth. Since Brown’s last tweet about the video, as of press time, Punk has not tweeted about it again.

This is hardly the first bit of criticism that Brown has received since his Grammy win on February 12. While a number of celebrities tweeted their criticisms of Brown’s win and performance that night, country star Miranda Lambert has been the most vocal about it.

Brown responded to her post-Grammy tweets, writing, “Using my name to get publicity? I love it! Perform your heart out! Go buy Miranda Lambert album! So motivational and ‘PERFECT’!”

Not only did she tweet about it, but in concert last week Usmagazine.com reported Lambert addressed the issue further, saying, “I just have to speak my mind, because where I come from, beating up on a woman is never OK. So that’s why my daddy taught me early on in life how to use a shotgun.”

Maybe that’s why 56-year-old James Garrett laughed the whole thing off.

But before we start making assumptions, let’s get a little back story on everything that happened with the alleged extortion plot, and hear what Garrett had to tell E! News about the ongoing situation.

In case you don’t remember, Iowa photographer Teresa Hunt is charged with one count of extortion after she allegedly demanded that 19 Kids and Counting be canceled or for TLC’s parent company, Discovery, pay her $ 10,000 for the “intimate” photo of Garrett and Amy Duggar that she had.

The photo in question, obtained by E! News, shows Amy, 25, and James posing at a restaurant called McFarlands during lunch after Amy performed at James’ “A Tribute to John Denver” show at the Branson Imax complex.

“Amy and I have been friends for over four years now,” Garrett tells E! News. “She is a regular part of my John Denver Tribute Show in Branson, as is her mother, Deanna.”

Garrett notes that he and Amy have never gone out on a date and have never even been alone together, countering Hunt’s claim that the two were dating.  

“I had just returned from New Zealand and when I got off the plane at LAX, there was an urgent message from Amy to call immediately,” said Garrett.  ”She went on to tell me someone had sent an extortion letter to the Discovery Channel detailing an affair between the two of us, complete with photos.  Amy and I just busted out laughing because we knew there were no pictures and absolutely nothing to back up the claims.”

Garrett had no idea that the individual trying to extort him was Hunt, his personal photographer and friend of two years. 

“When I returned to Branson, management gave me a letter which berated me in every way imaginable and spoke of an affair I was having with Amy,” said Garrett.  ”It was at that moment I realized it was Teresa who had sent the extortion letter, and I had a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that my own photographer would betray me in this way.” 

Garrett says he immediately got in touch with the FBI and they would eventually confirm it was Hunt that had sent the letter.  

“She never showed any signs that she might be capable of doing something like this,” said Garrett.  ”Maybe it was jealously, maybe it was money, maybe it was the need for attention. She got the attention for sure.”

Glee stars Lea Michele and Cory Monteith are dating after spending Valentine’s Day together in Los Angeles, according to a new report.

The actors have portrayed an on/off couple on the hit TV musical since its launch in 2009 and it seems their onscreen chemistry has since spilled over into their personal lives.

Editors at Life & Style magazine claim Monteith treated the 25-year-old beauty to a cozy dinner date at Il Covo restaurant on the most romantic day of the year – and they were not shy with their affections.

An eyewitness tells the publication, “They were into each other all night. She was very happy, flirting and touching Cory a lot. He just stared at her with puppy-dog eyes.”

They were also allegedly spotted together at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in L.A. days later.

Michele has made no secret that she’s a fan of Monteith, admitting last year, “As long as I get to have scenes with Cory, it makes me really happy.”

The singer/actress split from her longtime boyfriend Theo Stockman in September.

Attorneys for country rock duo say disaster was an ‘act of God’

Sugarland‘s lawyers have issued a statement blaming fans for any injuries sustained during the Indiana State Fair tragedy.

In August last year, seven people were killed and many more seriously injured before a gig from the American country duo after a storm with winds up to 70mph caused the stage to collapse.

48 of the survivors from the show launched a lawsuit against the band in November last year, claiming that they could have prevented the accident by cancelling the show, but the duo’s attorneys have now said that the high-speed winds were an “act of God” and denied that their clients had a responsibility to either warn fans or for the construction of the stage.

According to ABC News, the statement also implies that the fans were responsible for their own injuries, claiming they had “resulted from their own fault” because they had “failed to exercise due care for their own safety”.

However, a statement from the band seemingly distanced themselves from the legal dispute, in which they said:

Sadly when a tragedy occurs, people want to point fingers and try to sensationalize the disaster. The single most important thing to Sugarland are their fans. Their support and love over the past nine years has been unmatched. For anyone to think otherwise is completely devastating to them.

The duo had originally hosted a free show in Indianapolis last October to honour those affected by the accident. In the aftermath of the August show, Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles had said: “There are no words to process a moment of this magnitude and gravity.

“There are only prayers for peace in the hearts of the bereft, and prayers of thanksgiving for those who were spared or safe.”

Nine films are nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards this year, begging the question: who deserved a tenth spot on that list? Oscars 2012: 10 Spot answers that question, as the MTV Movies team highlights some of 2011′s greatest films and argues why they deserved a nod as the tenth Best Picture nominee.

Let’s get this out of the way right now: Yes, “Shame” is indeed The One With The Penis – Michael Fassbender’s, to be precise. That said, it would be a shame (no pun intended) if that’s all this extraordinary film is remembered for. For some insight into why “Shame” wasn’t nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, we should discuss what this movie is not:

» It’s not a family film (see above re: The One With The Penis). This movie is one hundred percent adult-oriented. There are no brave horses, charming pups or precocious kids in “Shame.” There are only grown-ups doing very grown-up things.

» It’s not populated by likeable characters. The siblings played by Fassbender and Carey Mulligan are two seriously damaged, dysfunctional people who sometimes behave horribly to each other. No heroes or heroines, no hearts of gold – just people in pain who are trying to get through the day.

» It’s not a period piece. “Shame” takes place in the here (New York City) and now. The city is not romanticized or sanitized; it’s depicted as a real place where real people live in the 21st century, dealing with real issues.

» It’s not an easy film to watch. Sure, there’s a lot of flesh on display, but the sex scenes are not what you’d call “sexy.” Fassbender’s Brandon is a sex addict. There’s no love or affection given or taken in these scenes. And there’s also some pretty gruesome, heartbreaking stuff courtesy of Mulligan’s Sissy. Fascinating and engaging, yes. Sweet and uplifting? Definitely not.

In short, “Shame” is not Oscar bait. Steve McQueen’s drama is unconventional, raw, risky and current. In an ideal cinematic universe these qualities would be recognized and rewarded. Alas, Oscar doesn’t live in that universe quite yet. Maybe one day they’ll get it right.
